Is SocketPlugin buggy?

Maintaining SocketPlugin (or reimplementing for a new plaform) is a lot 
easier than doing the same with FFI or Alien. Eliot's threaded FFI plugin 
is very complex compared to (the pretty simple) SocketPlugin.
